Precision Strike Learning: Why drilling less can raise your score faster
The exhausting part of SAT prep often isn’t “I can’t learn it”—it’s spending hours on questions you already know. Two workbooks later and the score barely moves: effort isn’t the problem; wasted effort is.
No ranks. No ladders. No question oceans. Spend a little time mapping weak spots—then practice only those.
Fewer questions. Sharper strike.
1. How does Precision Strike pick questions? — one checkup beats ten blind drills
The first Precision Strike step isn’t doing fewer questions—it’s skipping wasted ones. So the diagnostic has to cover the map; only then do you know what you can skip.
1. Official Domain quotas
- RW (27): Craft & Structure 8 · Information & Ideas 7 · Expression of Ideas 5 · Standard English Conventions 7
- Math: 22 (standard 8/8/3/3) or 27 (extended 10/9/4/4)—real-test size or a wider scan, your call
2. Skills spread inside each Domain
No “all algebra is linear equations” packing. Lines, inequalities, vocab, main idea—skills get coverage so blind spots can’t hide.
3. Olive-shaped difficulty: ~25% easy · 50% medium · 25% hard
Every Domain mixes easy and hard—no “algebra all easy, geometry all brutal.” Weak spots from that mix actually mean something.
4. A calmer test-day flow
- Order: RW reading then grammar; Math easy → hard so you don’t panic on item one
- Source: official College Board items only—no weird outliers to warp your pacing
2. Timing — clock on, no hard cutoff
Elapsed time runs on screen against a ~35-minute reference. When it passes, you can keep going and submit when ready.
| Form | Your pace |
|---|---|
| RW 27 · ~35 min suggested | Steady: main idea in reading, rules in grammar |
| Math 22 · ~35 min suggested | Suggested pace — no forced submit |
No forced hand-in. The report rates your pace vs 35 minutes (fast / normal / slow) separately from weak domains.
3. How to read results — no total score, hunt weak spots
Don’t ask “what’s my score?” first. Quick diagnostics don’t grade you — the weak-spot map is the point.
Lead metric: Domain accuracy (drill into Skill). Low = spend time. High = skip boldly.
Difficulty assist (the Precision Strike decision tool)
- Missing easy + medium: real gaps. Fix foundations before chasing hard sets.
- Only Hard wrong: base is solid; you need stretch practice, not a full restart.
Leave the greens alone. Attack the reds. That’s Precision Strike score growth.
Do fewer questions—the ones that move the score
- Diagnose (~35 min suggested, no forced submit) — find the holes
- Read the report (~5 min) — weak areas + pace note, no score
- Fill only the holes (~19 min · 12 targeted items) — skip what you already own
Not less learning—less ocean swimming. Put the minutes on the points that raise the score.
